Steve Bedser

Fairy Dust Consulting is a network of experienced consultants, each of them recognised as a leading practitioner in their own field. Steve Bedser, who has an outstanding track record of senior management in a variety of senior roles, leads our team.

Steve's origins lie in the Health Service, where he started his career as a Senior Health Promotion Specialist. This later developed into a management career and he became Primary Care Manager for a large Community NHS Trust. He was then part of the team that successfully relocated Birmingham Children's Hospital from Five Ways to its current site at Steelhouse Lane. Latterly, he was Chief Officer of a Primary Care Group and then Director of Primary Care for a Primary Care Trust, both in Sandwell.

Since leaving the Health Service he has been the Chief Executive of a large environmental regeneration charity, prior to founding Fairy Dust Consulting in 2006.

Alongside his paid career, Steve has a high profile as an elected member in Birmingham. He served as a City Councillor for ten years up to May 2008 and held a variety of portfolios including adult social services, housing and equalities and human resources. In 2007 he was the author of a groundbreaking scrutiny report looking at Sustainability and Climate Change for the city.

Steve is a long-time ambassador for Birmingham's Lesbian and Gay community and is a central player in the redevelopment of the Gay Village as part of the Big City Plan.
